Lost Hope

In March 2022, at Stockholm airport, I met a Ukrainian family escaping the war. Having lived a month underground amidst bombings, deprived of daylight and basic amenities, they carried the tangible scents of fear and horror. Everyone that saw them got terrified—like the war was knocking on our door as well.

Together with another woman and a kind-hearted taxi driver, we assisted them in reaching their next airport. The taxi driver later recounted how the young boy, severely traumatized, would vomit at the sound of planes or large vehicles.

This encounter profoundly impacted me, leaving me unsettled for weeks. Inspired by this experience, I dedicated a year to sculpting a piece that reflects the young boy’s trauma, striving to portray the deep horror he embodied.
